Attentive Refraction

I am interested in the dynamics and discoveries of "wandering mind" or inattention,
and assume this attribute on the part of listeners and readers,
including as it does that reversion to the self-discipline of a concentrated,
purposive attention. The "level" or valency of significance of any particular set of
particles of text being up for grabs, not specifically preconditioned by the material
preceding it, the reader is asking repeatedly, "What is it?" The discipline of attention
is rhythmically refreshed and reinforced with the discipline of inattention,
just as understanding is always in an active and shifting relationship to
misunderstanding and unwillingness to understand.
